چکیده
Petroleum refinery wastes contain mixtures of toxic compounds including Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) which may pose genotoxic threats to the biota. The objective present study was assess potential wastewaters petroleum at Sapugaskanda, Sri Lanka using erythrocytic micronuclei and nuclear abnormalities as biomarkers in fish Oreochromis niloticus exposed wastewater under controlled laboratory conditions field captured fishes from canals close refinery. Erythrocytic peripheral blood were evaluated cytogenetic tests. Patterns fluorescent aromatic bile also examined fixed fluorescence spectrometry PAH exposure. micronuclei, buds notched nuclei highly induced (P < 0.05) O. for 7 days comparison control fish. field-captured fishes, Trichogaster pectoralis Dawkinsia singhala inhabiting water near demonstrated significant induction <0.05) other abnormalities. exposure indicative patterns (naphthalene, phenanthrene, pyrene, benzo(a)pyrene types) detected fishes. results revealed that contains chemicals PAHs. Hence, incorporation genotoxicity tests bioanalytical tools regulating discharge final aquatic ecosystems would be prudent consideration sustainable development goals focusing on ecosystem human safety.

In vitro analysis of the phytotoxic and genotoxic potential of Aligarh wastewater and Mathura refinery wastewater
Present report deals with the phytotoxicity and genotoxicity of Mathura refinery wastewater and Aligarh wastewater of Northern India. The IC50 value in Allium cepa root growth inhibition test was recorded to be 0.14X and 0.10X for Mathura refinery and Aligarh industrial wastewaters, respectively. Significant decline in the survival of various Escherichia coli K12 DNA repair defective mutants wa...
متن کاملAnaerobic Treatment of Petroleum Refinery Wastewater
Anaerobic treatment has many advantages over other biological method particularly when used to treat complex wastewater such as petroleum refinery wastewater. In this study two Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactors were operated in parallel to treat six volumetric organic loads (0.58, 1.21, 0.89, 2.34, 1.47 and 4.14 kg COD/m·d) to evaluate the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal eff...
متن کاملTreatment of Petroleum Refinery Wastewater by using UASB Reactors
Petroleum refineries discharged large amount of wastewater -during the refining processthat contains hazardous constituents that is hard to degrade. Anaerobic treatment process is well known as an efficient method to degrade high strength wastewaters. Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanker (UASB) is a common process used for various wastewater treatments. Two UASB reactors were set up and operated in...
متن کاملBioremediation of Petroleum Refinery Wastewater Effluent via Augmented Native Microbes
In Nigeria, like other developing countries, industries discharge their wastewater without effective treatment due to the high cost of existing treatment technologies. Wastewater containing petroleum hydrocarbon is highly toxic and pose a great danger to the nearby communities. Therefore, there is a need for a more robust and cost effective treatment technology. In this research, a study was ca...
